🎯 Grouping of capacitors (કેપેસિટર્સનું ગ્રુપિંગ)
💡 Necessity of grouping of capacitors (ગ્રુપિંગની જરૂરિયાત)
🛠 Methods of grouping (ગ્રુપિંગની પદ્ધતિઓ)
- Parallel grouping (સમાંતર જોડાણ)
- Series grouping (શ્રેણી જોડાણ)
🔗 Parallel grouping (સમાંતર જોડાણ)
Conditions for parallel grouping
- Polarised capacitors (Electrolytic capacitors)
Necessity of parallel grouping:
Connection of parallel grouping:
📝 General formula for parallel capacitance (સૂત્ર)
$C_t = C_1 + C_2 + C_3 + ……….. + C_n$
- $C_t$ = Total capacitance (કુલ કેપેસીટન્સ)
Charge Stored in Parallel Grouping
In a parallel-grouped circuit, the voltage across each capacitor is exactly the same. However, the amount of charge each capacitor stores depends on its size (capacitance).
- Key Principle: Larger capacitors store more charge. If capacitors are equal in value, they store an equal amount of charge.
- Total Charge ($Q_T$): The total charge stored by the group is the sum of the individual charges delivered from the source.
The Formula:
$Q_T = Q_1 + Q_2 + Q_3 + …. + Q_n$
Where:
- $Q_T$ is the total charge.
- $Q_1, Q_2, Q_3…$ are individual charges of capacitors in parallel.
Using the standard equation $Q = CV$, we can find the total capacitance ($C_T$):
$C_T V_S = C_1 V_S + C_2 V_S + C_3 V_S$
Since the voltage ($V_S$) is the same for all capacitors in parallel, they cancel out, leaving us with:
$C_T = C_1 + C_2 + C_3$
📝 Question 1: Calculation Practice
Problem: Calculate the total capacitance, individual charges, and total charge for the circuit shown in Fig 2.
Given Data:
- $C_1 = 25 \mu F$ (100V rating)
- $C_2 = 50 \mu F$ (150V rating)
- $C_3 = 75 \mu F$ (200V rating)
- $C_4 = 100 \mu F$ (150V rating)
- Supply Voltage ($V$) = 100 Volts
Solution Step-by-Step:
1. Total Capacitance ($C_T$): $C_T = C_1 + C_2 + C_3 + C_4$ $C_T = 25 + 50 + 75 + 100 = \mathbf{250 \text{ micro farads}}$
2. Individual Charge ($Q = CV$):
- $Q_1$: $25 \times 100 \times 10^{-6} = 2500 \times 10^{-6} = \mathbf{2.5 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$
- $Q_2$: $50 \times 100 \times 10^{-6} = 5000 \times 10^{-6} = \mathbf{5 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$
- $Q_3$: $75 \times 100 \times 10^{-6} = 7500 \times 10^{-6} = \mathbf{7.5 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$
- $Q_4$: $100 \times 100 \times 10^{-6} = 10000 \times 10^{-6} = \mathbf{10 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$
3. Total Charge ($Q_T$): $Q_T = Q_1 + Q_2 + Q_3 + Q_4$ $Q_T = (2.5 + 5 + 7.5 + 10) \times 10^{-3} = \mathbf{25 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$
Verification: $Q_T = C_T \times V = 250 \times 10^{-6} \times 100 = \mathbf{25 \times 10^{-3} \text{ coulombs}}$.
⛓️ Series Grouping of Capacitors
Why do we group capacitors in series? 🤔
- To reduce the total capacitance in a circuit.
- To allow the combination to withstand a higher potential difference (voltage) than an individual capacitor could handle.
Conditions for Series Grouping:
- If capacitors have different voltage ratings, ensure the voltage drop across each does not exceed its specific rating.
- Polarity must be strictly observed when using polarized capacitors (like electrolytics).
Connection Logic:
As shown in Fig 3, series grouping of capacitors is analogous to connecting resistors in series or cells in series. However, the calculation of total capacitance in series is mathematically similar to calculating resistors in parallel.
Total Capacitance in Series:
When capacitors are connected in series, the total capacitance is always less than the smallest individual capacitor value. This happens because:
- The effective plate separation thickness increases.
- The effective plate area is limited by the smallest plate.
General Formula for Series Capacitance: The total capacitance ($C_T$) can be calculated using:
$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{1}{C_1} + \frac{1}{C_2} + \frac{1}{C_3} + …$
$$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{1}{C_1} + \frac{1}{C_2} + \frac{1}{C_3} + \dots + \frac{1}{C_n}$$
અથવા (or)
$$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{1}{C_1} + \frac{1}{C_2} + \frac{1}{C_3} + \dots + \frac{1}{C_n}$$
🔹 જો Series માં ત્રણ (three) capacitors હોય તો: $$C_T = \frac{C_1 \times C_2 \times C_3}{(C_1C_2) + (C_2C_3) + (C_3C_1)}$$
Maximum voltage: 💡
$$V = \frac{Q}{C}$$
$$V_x = \frac{C_T}{C_x} \times V_s$$
- $V_s$ – Supply voltage
Fig 4
- $V_s = 25\text{ V}$
- $C_1 = 0.1\text{ }\mu\text{F}$ ($15\text{ V}$)
- $C_2 = 0.5\text{ }\mu\text{F}$ ($15\text{ V}$)
- $C_3 = 0.2\text{ }\mu\text{F}$ ($10\text{ V}$)
Total capacitance ($C_T$) ની ગણતરી: $$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{1}{C_1} + \frac{1}{C_2} + \frac{1}{C_3}$$
$$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{1}{0.1} + \frac{1}{0.5} + \frac{1}{0.2} \text{ micro farad}$$
$$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{10}{1} + \frac{2}{1} + \frac{5}{1}$$
$$\frac{1}{C_T} = \frac{17}{1} \text{ and } C_T = 0.0588 \text{ micro farad}$$
Individual Voltage
1️⃣ $V_1$ શોધવા માટે: $$V_1 = \frac{C_T}{C_1} \times V_s$$ $$V_1 = 14.71 \text{ V}$$
2️⃣ $V_2$ શોધવા માટે: $$V_2 = \frac{C_T}{C_2} \times V_s$$ $$V_2 = \frac{0.0588}{0.5} \times 25$$ $$V_2 = 2.94 \text{ volts}$$
3️⃣ $V_3$ શોધવા માટે: $$V_3 = \frac{C_T}{C_3} \times V_s$$ $$V_3 = \frac{0.0588}{0.2} \times 25$$ $$V_3 = 7.35 \text{ volts}$$
